Harvey Williams Cushing (April 8, 1869 - October 7, 1939)
Harvey Williams Cushing, M.D. (April 8, 1869 - October 7, 1939) was an American neurosurgeon and a pioneer of brain surgery, and the first to describe Cushing's syndrome. He is often called the "father of modern neurosurgery".
Brain surgery is perhaps the oldest of the practiced medical arts. Africa showed evidence of brain surgery as early as 3,000 B.C. Pre-Incan civilization used brain surgery as early as 2,000 B.C.
